2. Get Mentored

Contact a diplomate or diplomates to arrange a minimum of 10 contact hours to review 10 patient/client data analysis and 5 QEEG report presentations.  Two of these hours must involve direct observation.  The mentor provides confirmation and referral of the candidate to the International QEEG Certification Board (IQCB) and completes a Mentorship Verification Form.  Please see below for more details.

QEEG analysis Mentoring Requirements

The mentoring requirements involve two essential components: practical experience and mentoring contact hours. Mentoring should be provided by a Board certified diplomate clinician and may be completed through direct contact or through the use of live phone and/or web meetings, including the 2 hours of live observation so long as the mentor can view the applicant’s screen during a live session.

A. Mentoring Contact Hours

The mentor and candidate must have a minimum of 10 contact hours together. This time is to be used for the review of 10 patient/client data analysis and 5 QEEG report presentations. At least two of these hours must involve direct observation during which time the mentor is to directly observe the candidate in his/her technical expertise, proficiency in data artifacting, data interpretation, treatment planning, etc. The remaining 8 hours may be accomplished through either direct, electronic, or phone contact or any combination of these means. Please refer to the IQCB Practical Skills Assessment for a suggested list of skills that each candidate should be able to demonstrate.

B. Practical experience
1. EEG & QEEG analysis: The mentor should review the candidate’s skills in data collection, editing and analysis demonstrated with no less than 2 sessions. The candidate should use the patient/client data they have collected in session and demonstrate/review their completed data analysis with the mentor.
2. Report/Case Study Presentations: The candidate should demonstrate good skills in assessment, setting up an analysis review and treatment recommendations. This is to be demonstrated with no less than 5 case study presentations.

Mentoring FAQs

Who may mentor?
IQCB requires that a mentor be appropriately IQCB Diplomate-certified and in active clinical practice for a minimum of two years. See our Directory for Diplomates.

May I use more than one mentor?
Yes. Candidates may wish to use more than one mentor, because they are looking for expertise in a specific area of practice or would like the benefit of varied experience and client approach. It is important to keep good records noting the work accomplished with each.

What if there are no IQCB Diplomate-Certified professionals in my area to mentor me?
Long distance mentoring is very easily accomplished and acceptable. Candidates are encouraged to seek expertise that they find suitable for their clinical practice.

May I get credit for mentoring hours accomplished before I filed my application for certification?
Yes. Though IQCB strongly recommends that your certification application be on file prior to starting the process, we will honor any work done prior to that date with appropriate documentation.

How can I find a mentor?
IQCB recommends that you first start with the mentors identified on our Directory listing. Remember, any appropriately IQCB Diplomate-certified person can serve in this capacity.

What if I want to use a mentor who is not IQCB-certified?
IQCB supports the use of an IQCB Diplomate-certified mentor; however, we realize that in some cases, you may know of an expert with whom you would like to learn to apply your clinical QEEG analysis skills. IQCB is willing to review the relevant education, experience, and training for any professional who is not currently IQCB Diplomate-certified.

How much do mentors charge?
The cost of mentoring contact hours will vary. You will have to contact each professional to ask what they charge.

2 Hours Live Observation – Must we be in the same room?
No, but it is preferred. Any online program (i.e. Skype, GoToMeeting, etc.) that allows mentor to observe a session live is acceptable.

What about Group Mentoring?
Group mentoring is not recommended to meet the intent of the mentoring requirements. Evaluation, observation and guidance is meant to be a one-on-one experience in order to allow the mentor to clearly evaluate the applicant. This should be discussed between you and your mentor.
