Leslie Sherlin, PhD studies the brains of people making decisions — very, good decisions. He’s one of the world’s leading experts on the neuroscience of high performance, having spent his career pursuing the answer to one simple question: Why is one person so naturally gifted while others try so much harder — only to fall short? Music. Math. Sports. Some have a knack while others struggle. Dr. Sherlin holds multiple academic appointments and is a leader in the research and use of neuroscience for improving human performance. He has led SenseLabs’ research partnerships with Red Bull’s High Performance Center, USA Track & Field, US military Special Operations Forces, professional and collegiate teams and athletes and more, to discover what the brains of the most high performing people were doing and help them do more of it. Dr. Sherlin’s work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, BBC, Sports Illustrated, CNN, ESPN, CBS and more. He is also a sought-after public speaker, with 100’s of hours on stage around the world.
Dr. Sherlin completed his undergraduate degree and first years of graduate school from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where he became interested and exposed to quantitative electroencephalography and psychophysiology regulation. After obtaining a BA in Psychology at Tennessee he subsequently completed the degrees of MS in Clinical Psychology and PhD in Psychology. In 2013 he re-specialized with a PhD and post doctoral fellowship in Sport Psychology. In 2017 he completed a PhD in Clinical Pastoral Counseling. He holds multiple academic appointments researching and teaching in the fields of psychology and counseling. Dr. Sherlin is listed in the United States Olympic Committee Sport Psychology and Mental Training Registry. He is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, certified at the Diplomat level in quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG) and is BCIA Board Certified both in Biofeedback and Neurofeedback. He has served on the board of directors for both the International Society for Neurofeedback and Research and the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance in a number of elected positions including the President.

Personalised medicine is evolving fast and QEEG and ERP analysis assists those who seek a greater explanation to why symptoms arise and how best to treat it – a unique approach to each individual. We will assist you in creating a plan with your practitioner (e.g. psychiatrist/psychologist) that considers previous treatments and future goals.

We treat a wide range of disorders including autism, depression, anxiety, trauma, drug and alcohol problems and traumatic brain injury.
We currently have three experienced therapyists: Brenda Hightshoe, MA, LPCC, Elizabeth M. Nash, MA, LMFT, AT-R and John K. Nash, PhD, LP.
We find that art therapy (often clay – we have a kiln) complements our biofeedback/neurofeedback work. We also do binocular vision training, since many people we see have poor control of their convergent (close-up) and/or divergent (distance) binocular fusion. This causes major problems ranging from slow and inaccurate reading to compromised athletic performance or outright clumsiness. We also are introducing canine therapy – children and adults can learn self-regulation by learning to direct, care for and give commands to a well-trained German Shepherd Dog we own.
Our basic approach is cognitive behavior therapy: creating useful habits of thinking, feeling and behaving. Biofeedback and neurofeedback, as well as vision therapy are “fine-grained” forms of CBT.
